2nd call Symposium "the effects of global change on floods, fluvial geomorphology and related hazards in mountainous rivers", 6-8 March 2017, Potsdam, Germany

Dear Colleagues,

please may we draw your attention again to the International Symposium on "The effects of global change on floods, fluvial geomorphology and related hazards in mountainous rivers" which will be held in Potsdam, Germany, from 6-8 March 2017.

The purpose of this symposium is to bring together researchers from several disciplines as hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, hydraulic engineering, environmental science, geography, economy (and any other related discipline) to discuss the effects of global change over the river system in relation with floods. The symposium will try to improve our understanding of how rivers are likely to evolve as a result of global change and hence address the associated hazards of that fluvial environmental change concerning flooding.

The symposium will be organized by means of invited talks given by prominent experts, oral lectures, poster sessions and discussion sessions for each individual topic. Already confirmed speakers are:

1) Dr. Donal Mullan (Queen's University Belfast): Modelling global change
2) Prof. Dr. Peter Rutschmann (Technical University of Munich): Measuring and modelling river floods
3) Dr. Michael Bründl (WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF): Evaluation/assessment river flooding hazards and risks
4) Dr. Ramon Batalla (University of Lleida): Catchment management

A special issue in Earth Surface Processes and Landforms will be edited with contributions from the participants. Moreover a review/opinion paper from the discussion sessions will be elaborated and submitted to a International Journal indexed in the SCI.

Deadline for abstract submission is November 1st 2016. Full details can be found in the attached flyer.

We invite you to participate in this conference and hope that it will be interesting and enjoyable for you, both scientifically and socially. We look forward to welcoming you in Potsdam next spring.

José A. López-Tarazón on behalf of the organizing committee (Axel Bronstert, Annegret Thieken & Theresia Petrow)
