Tenure Track Position in Sedimentary Geology 
San Francisco State University’s Department of Earth & Climate Sciences (http://tornado.sfsu.edu) invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Sedimentary Geology beginning August 2016. The department seeks individuals with a background in sedimentary geology with a specialization in areas such as coastal or fluvial sedimentology, sedimentation and tectonics, environmental sedimentology, or the sedimentary record of climate change. 
The Department of Earth & Climate Sciences comprises 11 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 5–6 lecturers, and 2 full-time support staff. It offers a BS degree in Earth Sciences with emphases in Geology, Hydrology, and Ocean, Weather, and Climate; a BA degree in Earth Sciences; and a MS degree in Geosciences. These programs together enroll ~130 undergraduate majors and 20-25 MS students. Other facilities available to the Department include the Sierra Nevada Field Campus (http://www.sfsu.edu/~sierra); the Romberg Tiburon Center (http://rtc.sfsu.edu), the University’s environmental field station; and Moss Landing Marine Laboratories (https://www.mlml.calstate.edu/) (SF State is part of the campus consortium). 

Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in earth sciences or a related discipline; postdoctoral experience is preferred. Candidates should have a strong background in quantitative and field-based analysis of sedimentary processes. Candidates must have an active record of scholarship related to their specialty area and demonstrate the potential to develop an outstanding, externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with teaching interests or experience broadly in sedimentology. Candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body. 
Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in sedimentary geology, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing research program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments. We expect the person hired for the position to contribute to our multidisciplinary BS program in Earth Sciences, which emphasizes an Earth systems approach. Rank and salary: Assistant (or Associate) Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
